1. Michael Franklin
Designation Senior Digital Producer Author Bio Joining CTV Calgary in 2011, Michael has over a decade of experience in online media. Since that time, he has provided online coverage for a wide variety of stories such as the fatal highway shooting near Claresholm, the 2013 Calgary floods, the Brentwood murders and the trial of triple murderer Douglas Garland. He has also covered numerous federal, provincial and municipal elections, Olympics and Calgary Stampede events. His specialities in stories include crime, social issues, politics, parenting, social media, lifestyle and leisure. His journalism career first started back in 2005 where..., after graduating from the Journalism New Media program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, he secured a position working the graphics department at CBC Toronto. Following that position, he took the plunge into the online media world at Canada.com. He moved west in 2008, first settling in Edmonton and working with the Edmonton Journal's online team. From there, he worked with Global Edmonton as a web producer, as well as a promotions producer. Alongside the rest of his team at CTV Calgary, he has won the RTDNA's Edward R. Murrow award in 2014 for Digital Media, the Canadian Online Publishing Award for Best News Website in 2017, the RTDNA's Gord Sinclair award in 2017 for coverage of Calgary's municipal election and the Canadian Online Publishing Award for Best News Coverage in 2018. He's also been part of the team that brought Broken System: EMS Crisis in Alberta a Regional Edward R. Murrow award and an RTDNA award for Enterprise Journalism in 2023. Michael possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University, obtained in 2003, and a Journalism New Media certificate from Sheridan College. 6. Ryan MacDonald
Designation Journalist Author Bio Ryan MacDonald is a videographer out of CTV Atlantic’s Sydney bureau. Born and raised in Sydney, Ryan is a Cape Breton boy through and through. He is proud to be covering stories in his hometown, featuring the people and places he has grown up with. Ryan graduated from Riverview High School in Coxheath, N.S. and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Cape Breton University. He graduated from the Media Arts Program at the Atlantic Media Institute in Halifax in 2008. Ryan then made the move home to Sydney and was hired at 101.9 The GIANT and 103.5 The Eagle, where he honed his repor...ting skills for three years before joining the CTV news team in October 2011. 7. Regan Hasegawa

He often covers municipal and provincial politics and stories about the economy, recreation and health. 27. Stephanie Thomas
Designation Video Journalist Author Bio Stephanie Thomas is a video journalist whose career has taken her up and down and all over; and back again. She completed her Bachelor of Journalism from Ryerson University in Toronto; a stark contrast to her childhood in a waterfront community on the Vancouver harbour. Sights set high, Stephanie landed an internship with NBC’s “Access Hollywood.” Yes, THAT show, and spent a semester in Los Angeles for red carpet events, film premieres and studio exclusives. Months later, she joined CTV as a field assistant during the Vancouver 2010 Olympics – a hometown dream come t...rue. Her first on-air role took her literally up in the air as the helicopter reporter for Global BC, but she was anxious to get back on the ground and closer to the action. After a stint writing for CTV Vancouver, she headed to Red Deer, covering central Alberta and the capital region for CTV. Stephanie made her way to CBC Calgary as a multimedia journalist reporting for the web, radio and television. As broadcast news remained her favourite form of storytelling, she jumped at the chance to join CTV Calgary in 2017. Designation Journalist Author Bio Chelsea Papineau is the lead digital content specialist for CTV News Northern Ontario and is based in Sudbury. She creates, curates and publishes content for both the CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca website and social media. Chelsea was instrumental in creating the Northern Ontario Fire Updates page during the Ontario wildfires in 2018 and the Northeastern Ontario Riding Profiles page during the last two federal elections in 2019 and 2021 and provincial elections in 2018 and 2022, with in-depth information on candidates running in the region. She has covered stories from the social media response... to the Humboldt Broncos crash to the tragic New Year's Day crash that killed three children from the Greater Sudbury area in 2020, as well as continuing coverage through the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on northeastern ontario. Chelsea is also is a big fan of stories about wildlife. Designation Video Journalist Author Bio Timm Bruch joined CTV Calgary in the fall of 2019. Before joining the team in Cowtown, he reported in Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Kelowna – which means he’s seen just about every side of the weather spectrum. Timm was born in Calgary and has also spent time on the West Coast: he attended BCIT’s Broadcast Journalism program in Burnaby – where he graduated with honors -- and spent his early twenties in Vancouver. His first full-time television job was a stint in the Okanagan where he reported on organic vineyards, flooding beaches and an unlucky neighbourhood cat who w...as shot by a stray bullet. From there, he grabbed his winter running gear and shipped off to Winnipeg, where he covered strange stories (a course for beginner pilots where Timm actually got behind the controls of a small plane), hard news (police standoffs, court reporting), and downright-terrifying segments (live television while rappelling down the side of a downtown building). Eventually, Timm found a niche in politics. He's loved covering elections, budgets and even a scandal or two. Timm signed on to the CTV News team in 2018. He spent his first year with the company in Edmonton, much of it at the Legislature turning his mic towards provincial politicians. While based out of YEG, Timm’s highlights include the lead up to the 2019 election and a busy wildfire season that sent him on an extended trip to Northern Alberta. Designation Videojournalist Author Bio Allison Hurst joined CTV News Toronto in October 2022. She joined the network in February 2013 as an assignment editor for CTV News Vancouver. Instantly captivated by news, she went to BCIT the following September to complete the broadcast journalism program. During those two years Allison continued to freelance at CTV Vancouver, reported for CKNW and took a three-month internship in Belgium reporting and writing for a national TV show. Born and raised in the nation's capital, he got his start in journalism at the Metro Ottawa newspaper. There, he covered some of the biggest stories of his career, including the Parliament Hill shootings and an investigation into the Ottawa Police Service’s tendency to dismiss sexual assault complaints as unfounded. The small but mighty paper also sent him across the globe in 2013 to South Korea where he had the honour of interviewing veterans of the Kor...ean War. In 2016, he was hired as a reporter at the Ottawa Citizen, where he worked primarily in the paper’s courts bureau. He reported extensively at the time on the Supreme Court of Canada’s Jordan decision and its effects on cases of murder and child abuse, and published an exposé on historical sexual assault allegations involving an Ottawa priest. He also worked at CBC Ottawa as a digital reporter, where he also broadened his skills by reporting for radio. He briefly switched careers to work as a digital content writer in the Senate of Canada’s communications directorate — a job that allowed him to document the work of senators on a fact-finding mission throughout northern Canada and learn about life in the Arctic.
