Her documentary, “Hidden History: Syracuse 8”, was also nominated for an Emmy. In 2021, her documentary, “Hidden History: Syracuse Congress of Racial Equality” also won a Regional Murrow Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Designation Digital Reporter Author Bio Kelsey Thompson joined KXAN as a digital reporter in April 2021 after spending two years as a newspaper reporter covering Round Rock, Pflugerville and Hutto. An Upstate New York native, she graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in magazine journalism in May 2019 and relocated to Austin, trading three feet of snow for triple-digit summer temperatures. Kelsey serves as KXAN’s transportation reporter and covers a slew of city, county and state-led transportation projects, including Project Connect, the I-35 Capital Express Central expansion and the overhaul of the Austin-Bergs...trom International Airport. She received a Lone Star Emmy Award in November 2023 for her contributions to “TxTag Troubles,” a KXAN investigative series diving into toll road mishaps statewide. However, she has previously lived in Kyle, Texas, as well as five other states in the Southeast. While at KLFY, she worked on digital coverage of a tragedy that struck Louisiana when an oil liftboat, the Seacor Power, capsized in the Gulf of Mexico off Louisiana’s coast with 19 men on board, many of them were from the Lafayette area.
