In June 2020, Jennifer joined KXAN-TV in Austin, Texas, as a weekend anchor. She now anchors KXAN News at noon and KXAN News at 4 p.m. She was previously the morning news anchor at NewsChannel 9 WSYR-TV, the ABC affiliate in Syracuse, New York. Before moving to Central New York, she was a multimedia journalist at KXII-TV in Sherman, Texas. Prior to that, she was a writer/web producer at KDAF-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth. Jennifer ha...s produced numerous pieces of award-winning content. Her documentary, “Hidden History: The End of Syracuse’s 15th Ward”, was the recipient of an Edward R. Murrow award, a Syracuse Press Club award and was nominated for an Emmy. After the documentary aired, she traveled across Central New York speaking on various panels discussing urban renewal, redlining and other policies highlighted in the documentary that could impact the future of the region. Her documentary, “Hidden History: Syracuse 8”, was also nominated for an Emmy. In 2021, her documentary, “Hidden History: Syracuse Congress of Racial Equality” also won a Regional Murrow Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Born and raised in England, Christopher graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2014, with a Bachelors of Journalism. 8. Kelsey Thompson
Designation Digital Reporter Author Bio Kelsey Thompson joined KXAN as a digital reporter in April 2021 after spending two years as a newspaper reporter covering Round Rock, Pflugerville and Hutto. An Upstate New York native, she graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in magazine journalism in May 2019 and relocated to Austin, trading three feet of snow for triple-digit summer temperatures. Kelsey serves as KXAN’s transportation reporter and covers a slew of city, county and state-led transportation projects, including Project Connect, the I-35 Capital Express Central expansion and the overhaul of the Austin-Bergs...trom International Airport. She received a Lone Star Emmy Award in November 2023 for her contributions to “TxTag Troubles,” a KXAN investigative series diving into toll road mishaps statewide. She is also the recipient of a 2023 National Headliner Award and a 2023 Regional Murrow Award for her work on “Stop Mass Shootings,” a station-wide KXAN project created in the wake of the Uvalde mass shooting. 10. Sam Stark
Designation Digital Reporter Author Bio Sam Stark joined KXAN as a digital reporter in September 2022 after completing an internship with the Investigations Team at KXAN and finishing his master’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. He has settled in Austin for now but has lived all over the world. Sam grew up in San Diego, lived in San Francisco while getting his bachelor’s degree in psychology and worked in clinical neuroscience research in Sydney, Australia. Sam is familiar with issues affecting Austinites through his graduate school coursework at UT and previous reporting for the Austin Mo...nitor. 16. Abigail Jones
Designation Author Author Bio Abigail joined the KXAN digital team in July of 2022. Before moving to Austin, she worked as a digital producer for Nexstar station KLFY in Lafayette, Louisiana. However, she has previously lived in Kyle, Texas, as well as five other states in the Southeast. While at KLFY, she worked on digital coverage of a tragedy that struck Louisiana when an oil liftboat, the Seacor Power, capsized in the Gulf of Mexico off Louisiana’s coast with 19 men on board, many of them were from the Lafayette area. Only six of the crewmembers came home. Coverage extended beyond a year in the aftermath of th...e tragedy, which included backlash to the Coast Guard’s response, grassroots search efforts, and family responses.
