After continuing in this vein in Manchester, I was finally able to hang up the strai...ners and shakers for good when I landed my first full-time journalism job as a trainee at the Congleton Chronicle in leafy East Cheshire in 2017. Putting the city life behind me to write about farming, town council meetings and planning applications for the mega rich wasn't a direction I saw my life going in, but it was a priceless experience that cemented my appreciation for local journalism. After working my way up to chief reporter, I was delighted to get a job back covering my Yorkshire homeland in 2020 just before the pandemic kicked in. After the lockdown had lifted and we were able to write about more than just restrictions and statistics, I had a great time traversing the Yorkshire Dales, the coast and inner cities to get to the heart of the things that matter in this grand county. Change came again last year when I secured my current role at the Yorkshire Evening Post and in the six months I've been here, I've had the pleasure of covering some brilliant stories while working with a great team at a historic title.I hope to continue exploring this behemoth of a place and writing about and discovering what makes it tick for a good while to come.more
